CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has decided to appoint government PGT teachers who are proficient in English on deputation at Government Model Sanskrit Senior Secondary Schools. The state government has invited online applications by February 25.

KARNAL: The Karnal police have booked over 200 people, including 12 by name, for their alleged involvement in vandalising the houses of Dalits at Phoosgarh village in district.

As per police, they have been booked for outraging the modesty of women, attempt to murder, attacking people, vandalising houses, criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the SC/ST Act and the Arms Act for allegedly attacking and vandalising houses of Dalits following a clash between two groups. Police have arrested three accused so far.

Members of the Dalit community held a panchayat in the village and threatened to leave the village if police fail to arrest the accused and compensate the damage to properties by the accused.

Karnal deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav and superintendent of police Ganga Ram Punia reached out to the protesting Dalits and assured them of action against the accused as per law.

“I assure you that strict action will be taken against the accused. You need not worry about your safety as police will be deployed in the village till the accused are arrested,” he added.

He said that three people have been arrested and others will be held soon as police teams are working on it.

The SP said that the situation is under control and police have been deployed in the village.

As per the complaint filed by the Dalits, around 200 members of the ‘upper caste’ allegedly barged into their houses and ransacked their properties and five bikes following an argument between members of both communities.

The Dalits also alleged that members of a gang were involved in the incident and were forcing their children to sell illicit liquor.

According to police, the incident took place following an altercation between members of both groups in which a member of the Dalit community had sustained injuries leading to a clash between both the groups.
