The police on Thursday night arrested two members of a gang of three accused of multiple cases of robberies, snatching and assault in the city. The suspects used to steal motorbikes and rob motorists, said the police. The mastermind was earlier arrested on February 7, said the police.

According to the police, the suspects targeted more than 20 people on Sohna Road and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) last month and had robbed them of their laptops and valuables.

The suspects were identified as Arun Kumar of Gurugram, Mohammad Ibran of Vaishali in Bihar and Vishal Patel of Siwan in Bihar. They had allegedly formed a gang in last December to steal parked motorbikes, said the police, adding that Kumar was the mastermind of the gang

Preet Pal Sangwan, ACP (crime), said that Patel was lodged in a Bihar jail several times for motorbike thefts. “Patel gave the idea to steal bikes and planned to visit private companies on the day of salary distribution and attack managers carrying cash at the gate,” he said.

The matter came to light on January 16, when the police received a complaint from a private hospital that an executive working with a Delhi-based company has been admitted to the hospital with severe injuries. A team from SPR police post visited the hospital and recorded the victim’s statement. The victim, Gurukripa Modak a resident of Delhi told police that he was on his way to an automobile dealer to distribute salaries of outsourced staffers, when he was attacked by the gang. When he reached the dealer’s showroom in Begampur Khatola near Hero Honda Chowk, two members of the gang intercepted his motorbike and attacked him.

Sangwan said they hit on his helmet with a sharp object, following which he fell on the road. “They assaulted him with iron rods. Later they snatched the bag and fled from the spot,” he said. Modak was rushed to a private hospital and is currently stable, said police.
