Huge cache of arms, ammo seized in Reasi
Recovery made after security forces bust terrorist hideout in Makkhidar forest area in district
JAMMU: Security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from Makkhidhar forest of Reasi district on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, officials said.
“Late on Wednesday evening, an input was received from reliable source regarding suspicious activity in the remote and dense forests of Makkhidar in Reasi district. These war-like stores were spread over large area in remote uninhabited forests of Makkhidhar forest,” said a defence spokesman.
Persistent and coordinated efforts of joint search by the Indian army and police duly supported by local intelligence units led to successful unearthing of huge cache of weapons
and war-like stores, the spokesperson added.
Terrorists are in acute shortage of weapons and are desperate to try and disrupt peace and development being embraced by the people of the region after
extremely successful district development council (DDC) election process.
Reasi district has had the highest polling percentage of more than 80 percent during this DDC election setting a
record in the country.
The defence spokesperson said the cache of arms recovered from the hideout comprise AK-47 rifles, SLR rifle, 303 rifle, two pistols with magazines, ammunition, four UBGL grean
nades and an entire box of AK-47 ammunition and radio sets.
The seizure of the weapons comes a few days after security forces recovered warlike stores at the Jammu bus stand.
