ROHTAK: Taking the protest against Centre’s three farm laws to the next level, farmers of Jind’s Gulkani and Rajpura villages on Sunday destroyed standing wheat crop on two acre land in each village.

Nearly two dozen farmers gathered in two fields in both villages and ran a tractor over two acre land in each village after listening to BKU leader Rakesh Tikait’s speech at a rally in Hisar’s Kharak Punia this week.earlier this week, Tikait had asked farmers to sacrifice one standing crop if the government does not accept their demands. Kamlesh Devi, a farmer from Gulkani village, said she had destroyed a standing wheat crop in her two acre land.

“I have one acre wheat left for family consumption. Why should we grow more crop if the government is not listening to our demands. Other farmers will follow us. Men from our family are sitting on dharna and it was difficult for us to water and spray pesticides on crop. It was better to clear the fields. I will join the dharna,” she added.

A day earlier, farmer Rohit Kumar, from UP’S Kulchana village in Bijnor, was seen in a video saying that he had destroyed standing wheat crop on one and a half acre land.

Jind DC Aditya Dahiya could not be reached for a comment, despite repeated attempts.
