Man kills wife, 8-yr-old daughter, hangs self

A 40-year old man committed suicide by hanging himself with a fan after killing his wife and 8-year-old daughter at Mehta village of Amritsar district on Friday.

The police suspect family dispute behind the incident.

Mehta police station SHO Manjinder Singh said: “Mohinder Pal, a government employee who used to work in the state department of agriculture and farmer welfare as a store keeper in the district, first bludgeoned to death his wife, Reenu Rani, 35, with an iron rod. After killing his wife, the man strangulated his daughter and later committed suicide.”

“At around 2pm on Friday, neighbours complained to police that the door of their house was shut and that no one from the family is responding to the repeated calls. We rushed to the house and found Mohinder Pal hanging from a fan and the bodies of his wife and daughter. Reenu died of head injuries as she was hit with an iron rod while their daughter died of strangulation. It appears that the incident took place on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday as the door of the house was locked from inside since Friday morning, the SHO said, adding that the police did not received any suicide note.

The police have recovered the iron rod from the crime scene.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that there was a dispute between the husband and wife due to which the incident took place. Investigations under Section 174 (inquiry on suspicious death or suicide) of the CRPC is on,” the SHO said.
