BKU faction stops train carrying wheat from Adani silo in Moga

The Ugrahan group disapprove­s of the act, saying it will not block freight trains and will only stop storage of grain in the corporate group-owned facility

MOGA : Activists of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Krantikari), a constituen­t of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) that is protesting at the Delhi borders against the Centre’s three farm laws, on Friday stopped a freight train carrying wheat from a silo of the Adani Group at the Dagru railway station in Moga district.

The activists led by the union’s general secretary, Baldev Singh Zira, announced not to allow shipping of wheat from the silo located at Dagru.

Zira said, “We are protesting on behalf of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha and will not allow any freight train to load wheat from here. We will only stop those freight trains that load goods or wheat from the silo.”

Sukhdev Singh Kokri, general secretary, BKU (Ugrahan) said, “The wheat belongs to the Food Corporatio­n of India and it needs to reach the needy. Those who stopped the train were the ones who had requested us to allow resumption of freight trains here when the Centre was putting pressure for allowing movement of trains in the wake of the ‘rail roko’ protests.”

Moga deputy commission­er Sandeep Hans said, “We are speaking to the BKU (Krantikari) faction and they will agree with us as it is FCI’S wheat,”
