ROHTAK: Thousands of farmers attended a ‘Sarv Dharam Sammelan’ at Jind’s Khatkar Toll Plaza on Sunday to show a united front against the Centre’s three farm laws.

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) district president Azad Singh Palwan said farmers and labourers from all religions and castes had attended the meeting to show a united face against ‘communal forces’.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has destroyed all brotherhood in the last seven years but the farmers’ agitation has united us. Our brotherhood will fight this battle against the government until farm laws are repealed,” he said.

Another leader, Nawab Ali, said, “The government should repeal the farm laws and form a law on minimum support price (MSP) instead of giving a religious colour to this agitation.”

Slogans at BJP leader Kavita Jain’s event

Opposing the visit of BJP-JJP leaders, farmers on Sunday reached a programme in Dadri where former minister and BJP leader Kavita Jain was scheduled to address a meeting and raised slogans against her. Jain left the meeting as farmers waved black flags.

Raju Mann, a farmer leader, said “The khaps in the region had already boycotted the entry of BJP-JJP leaders in Dadri but members of the ruling party are trying to disrupt the peace by entering the district. We will protest against these leaders until farm laws are repealed,” he said .

Meanwhile, farmers in Sirsa staged a protest against power minister Ranjit Singh Chautala for supporting the BJP-JJP government and ‘not speaking in favour of farmers’.
