KARNAL: Three people have been booked for duping BJP’S Kurukshetra district president of ₹30 lakh on pretext of investing in a hydropower project in Himachal Pradesh.

The complainant, Raj Kumar Saini, said the accused — Ravinder Kumar, Ravi Kumar and Vikas Kumar of Rohtak — had approached him through a common Jindbased friend and told him about a proposal to setup a two megawatt (MW) hydropower project in Bangh village around 150km from

Shimla. Saini was told that the project will cost ₹16 crore. The accused asked him to invest 30% while they would take a bank loan for the remaining 70%. They even took him to the proposed site.

“The BJP leader agreed to invest ₹30 lakh for 33% share in the project after they agreed to appoint him, his wife and his son as directors in their company,” Saini told the police.

When Saini attempted to contact them, they evaded him saying they were not able to get a non-objection certificate (NOC) for the project from the forest department and as such were planning to change the location of the project. “After waiting for two years, I asked them to return my money. But they not only refused to return my money but also threatened me of dire consequences, following which I filed a police complaint”, he added.

Investigation officer Raj Kumar said on Saini’s complaint, they had registered a case under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. He said that no arrest had been made so far.
