Capt sets up reforms panel on higher education
Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday constituted a committee of vice-chancellors to come up with examination reforms and review the curriculums to scale up the quality of higher education in the state in line with the advances taking place across the world.

(GNDU) V-C will also look into introduction of new courses and digital education and will submit its report within 60 days, the CM said after reviewing the functioning of higher education and languages department.
He also tasked the committee with drafting a plan to bring the state’s education system at par with the international standards. “New and relevant courses should be identified to ensure that the students are in tune with the changes taking place globally,” he added.
He said all new colleges in the state must start classes from the 2021-22 academic session. Higher education secretary VK Meena was asked to speed up the recruitment process for filling 931 posts of assistant professors in government colleges. Meena said the process to fill these posts had been initiated after putting an end to the complex litigation of over the past 17 years. Further, the state government has also allowed filling of 1,925 posts of assistant professors in government-aided colleges, of which 1,400 vacancies were already filled, and out of these 410 teachers have been regularised while that of 118 is under process.
