: The Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) declared results of the Class 10 board exams on Friday, with a 100% pass percentage against last year’s 64.59%.

Though, all students cleared the exam but nobody was declared topper for the first time in 51 years, since the board’s inception in 1970.

The board exams for Classes 10 and 12, which were scheduled to take place in April-end and May had been postponed and later cancelled in the wake of the pandemic. State education board secretary Rajiv Prasad said the results of students with a compartment in certain subjects had been compiled by averaging the marks of the subjects they had passed in.

“Students who do not agree with the board results can apply for improvement and take the exam that will be held if the situation improves. For the first time, we have reported 100% result for girls and boys in both rural and urban areas,” Prasad said.

Around 3.13 lakh students, of which 1.72 lakh were boys and 1.41 lakh girls had registered for the Class-10 board exams, while 11,278 appeared for compartment examinations.

The results were announced on the basis of internal assessment and practical exam scores of the students. “Twenty marks each have been given on the basis of students’ performance in internal assessment and practical marks. If any student gets 40 marks in assessment and practicals, he or she will be given 60 marks for theory,” Prasad said.

“We did not announce a merit list and toppers this year because exams were not conducted,” he added.

Students, and parents expressed delight over the results. Sanju of Charkhi Dadri, a Class 10 student, said, “I received a 100% score because my teachers had given me full marks in practicals and internal assessment.”

Rakesh Saini of Rohtak said he had tested positive for the virus in May and had been worried about his younger son’s Class-10 examination.

“The board has taken the right call by cancelling the Class 10 examinations and then evaluating them on the basis of internal assessment and practicals. We were relieved to find that our son had received a 100% score,” he said.
