ADDING 14 NEW MEDICAL COLLEGES IN UP
In another major step of the 'One District One Medical College' mission, the Yogi government has planned a new set of medical colleges in 14 more districts.
These districts are Kanpur Dehat, Kaushambi, Chandauli, Bulandshahar, Jalaun, Kushinagar, Gonda, Pilibheet, Bijnour, Lakheempur Khiri, Sultanpur, Lalitpur, Sohanbhadra and Amethi.
Land has been identified in all of these 14 districts, approval of finance department and the cabinet has been obtained for these colleges. Tenders have been issued on an EPC basis with a fixed time and fixed price structure to ensure that the work is completed on time and within budget. Previously, construction work in the state was done on a contractual basis, in which there were chances of delays and cost overruns.
Now onwards the projects will be completed in a fixed-price, fixed-time mode. These 14 medical colleges will be purposed by next year, after NMC approval for LOP1. 1300-1400 MBBS seats will be added in the state.
SERVING THE UNSERVED DISTRICTS
The Yogi government's plan focuses on unserved districts where neither private nor government medical colleges exist. The state government has identified such 16 districts and announced in this year's budget to develop medical colleges through public-private partnership (PPP model). Under the Government of India's (GOI) scheme, facilities of 30% capital subsidy to private entrepreneurs who participate in a public-private partnership (PPP) for a medical college project in unserved areas will be given.
