WATCH OUT FOR TODAY
It’s a big day for Indian hockey which could wipe away years of wait and disappointment as the men’s team fights for a bronze medal. It’s a big day for Indian wrestling as well, with Ravi Dahiya fighting for gold and Vinesh Phogat, one of the biggest hopes prior to the start of the Games, starting her medal quest.
ATHLETICS Ryan Crouser
EVENT: MEN’S SHOT PUT FINAL American Ryan Crouser enters the final with some quality form behind him, having broken compatriot Randy Barnes' long-standing world record at the US Olympic trials last month with a throw of 23.37m. The reigning Olympic champion will be favourite for a second straight gold medal.
WRESTLING Vinesh Phogat
EVENT: WOMEN'S FREESTYLE 53KG RD OF 16 Vinesh Phogat begins her Tokyo campaign as the top seed in the 53kg freestyle. She takes on Sweden's Sofia Mattsson, the former world champion who won the 53kg bronze at the 2016 Rio Games, in her much-anticipated opening round.
HOCKEY
EVENT: MEN’S TEAM BRONZE MEDAL MATCH
After being beaten by a better Belgian side in the semi-finals, the Indian men’s team will look to bounce back quickly and return with a long-awaited medal. They face an inconsistent Germany, the four-time Olympic champion team which isn’t the powerhouse it once was in world hockey.
WRESTLING Ravi Dahiya
EVENT: MEN'S FREESTYLE 57KG FINAL There have been few turnarounds more sensational than what Ravi Dahiya engineered in his semi-final against Kazakhstan's Nurislam Sanayev. The Indian should carry that self-belief into the final, where he will need all of it against Russia's Zavur Uguev, a two-time world champion in the category.
