Will disconnect power, water supply to CM’s house: Channi
CHANDIGARH/RUPNAGAR: Congress Legislature Party leader (CLP) Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday threatened to disconnect water and power supply to the residence of Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal in case the government disconnects the power supply to any village waterworks due to non payment of bills.
He said the state government should waive the power bills of the waterworks in rural areas and connections must be restored immediately. “I will disconnect the water and power supply to the Badal’s residence so that he realises the difficulties faced by the people in villages where power bills tubewells of water works have not been paid,” he added. He also threatened to disconnect power supply to Punjab ministers’ houses.
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is yet to take any action against Channi who climbed a pole to reconnect the disconnected power supply to the water works at Sihon Majra village falling under Chamkaur Sahib assembly constituency of Rupnagar district on July 26.
The PSPCL had disconnected the power supply of the water works due to non-payment of outstanding electricity bill to the tune of ₹9.80 lakh. Two other villages Mughal Majri and Rod Majra are also attached with the Sihon Majra water works.
The Panchayat of village Sihon Majra ,which manages the water works, failed to pay the bill ,as the residents of the villages did not pay the users charges. Following the disconnection of power supply, the residents of these villages had to face water problem.
PSPCL authorities seems to be reluctant in taking action in this regard.Infact,PSPCL Rupnagar senior executive engineer HS Bhagu had denied that they had disconnected the power supply of the water works.
When asked whether they were contemplating action against Channi, Rupnagar PSPCL senior executive engineer HS Bhagu they had not received any orders from higher authorities in this regard so far.
