No bail for Delhi MLA in Quran sacrilege case
SANGRUR: A local court rejected the bail plea of Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi legislator Naresh Yadav, an accused in the June 24 Quran sacrilege case, on Thursday.
The Mehrauli MLA was sent to judicial custody till August 1 on Wednesday. Public prosecutor Ashwani Kumar said: “To get bail, Yadav’s lawyer presented the argument that he is a sitting MLA and has never faced any criminal charge. He also claimed that police doesn’t have even a single evidence against the MLA. However, looking at the serious nature of the case, the bail plea was rejected.”
Yadav’s counsel Himmat Singh Shergill said he has filed the bail application in the district and sessions court. The hearing would be held on July 30.
The AAP lawmaker was booked as a “mastermind” in the Quran sacrilege conspiracy following alleged revelations by one of the accused arrested in the case.
