Patiala jail case: Anticipatory bail to AAP leader, relief to Pinky
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court gave anticipatory bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former journalist Kanwar Sandhu on Thursday in the December 2015 Patiala jail incident case in which militant Balwant Singh Rajoana had allegedly attacked him during an unauthorised interview.
The high court bench of MMS Bedi also granted interim bail to dismissed cop Gurmeet Singh Pinky in the same case till the next hearing. While Sandhu had moved for anticipatory bail in May, Pinky had filed for bail on July 23. Sandhu was accused of unauthorised entry to the Patiala Central Jail on December 19, 2015, to meet Rajoana.
Sandhu had gone to the highsecurity prison with Pinky. On December 24, 2015, police registered the first-information report (FIR) against Sandhu, Pinky, and some jail official. Pinky is charged with making fake entries later to authenticate the meeting.
