KURUKSHETRA: Already catering to the need of tourists by providing quality food at cheap rates, the Satkar Kitchen of Gurgaon-based Janta Meal is now in talks with the state government to open more such canteens in the state.

Sources said the state government has approached the owners of the Jatna Meal for opening more such canteens, especially near government hospitals, bus stands and highways, to provide food at cheaper rates from November 1 — the day the government will be celebrating 50 years of Haryana’s creation.

“We are in talks with the government for more such canteens. If they will provide us the required facilities, we are ready to serve the people, especially on the highways,” said Naveen Chandra, area manager of the Janta Meals.

He said, “We need around 300400 people in 24 hours to run our canteen smoothly. There are many places where people have to pay three times more that what they have to pay here for the food.”

“We have opened the canteens in Kurukshetra and Gurgaon and now we are ready to expand,” he said, adding, “Our motive is not just to earn profit.”

The HT team that visited the Satkar Kitchen said that the visitors were satisfied with the services and the quality of food provided at these canteens.

“Though the canteen was opened in collaboration with the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB) to serve quality food at cheap rates to tourists visiting religious places, now it has attracted locals as well as more than 300 people eat from morning to evening every day,” said supervisor Kamal Sanwal.

The canteen will serve food to the tourists at ₹20 breakfast, lunch ₹25 and dinner ₹30, besides salad at ₹5 and curd at ₹10.
