HC cancels appointment of eight Telangana VCs
NEW DELHI: In a big blow to the Telangana government, the Hyderabad high court on Thursday set aside the appointment of Vice Chancellors to eight universities in the state, on the ground that it had deviated from the established procedure.
A division bench of the high court comprising acting chief justice Dilip B Bhosale and justice AV Sesha Sai, which was dealing with a batch of petitions filed by Dr D Manohar Rao, a retired professor of Osmania University, and others, quashed the government orders issued on Monday last appointing Vice Chancellors to Osmania University, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Dr BR Ambedkar Open University, Kakatiya University, Telugu University, Palamuru University, Prof Jayashankar Agricultural University and Rajiv Gandhi University for Knowledge and Technology.
But the bench kept the implementation of the verdict in abeyance for four weeks, on the request of advocate general Ramakrishna Reddy who requested time to file the reply from the government side.
