NEW DELHI: The National AntiDoping Agency (NADA) officials’ professional conduct has got Narsingh Yadav another reprimand. While his lawyers were preparing to mount a defence against the NADA notice for returning positive in the out-of-competition test on June 25, the wrestler suffered a further setback as news came in that the sample taken on July 5 too had tested positive for metandieonone.

Narsingh was part of the six Rio-bound athletes, from whom the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) had sought more samples for further testing. While NADA officials visited Sonepat on June 25 to take samples needed for his haematological passport, also known as athlete biological passport, they returned on July 5 to take blood samples. The NADA officials also collected his urine sample that day. While results from the blood sample returned negative, his urine sample again tested positive for metandieonone.

“His was the only sample that tested positive, all others’ returned negative. We have sent the reports to WADA,” a source told HT.

Narsingh, Sandeep Tomar (wrestling), Vikas Krishan, Shiva Thapa (boxing), Satish Sivalagam and Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting) were under the WADA radar besides six non-Olympians.

NADA chief Navin Agarwal said Parveen Rana would be tested while he is training in Georgia. Rana’s name was forwarded by the Wrestling Federation of India as Narsingh’s replacement. Since Rana wasn’t part of the national camp for Rio, he is yet to be tested. “We did not test him so we will get him tested in Georgia,” said Agarwal.

The three-member anti-doping panel, meanwhile, called the two cooks from the Sports Authority of India mess in Sonepat for deposition. Vijay and Pawan claimed to have seen a young wrestler trying to contaminate Narsingh’s food on June 5. NEW DELHI/LUCKNOW: Two promising athletes, one an international hammer thrower and the other a long jumper from Uttar Pradesh were caught for banned substances by the National AntiDoping Agency. Hammer thrower Kaushal Singh’s sports career came to a premature end as he failed a dope test during the 56th National inter-state senior championships at Hyderabad from June 28-July 2. It was the last domestic meet to qualify for Rio Olympic Games. The Navy thrower missed the Rio qualifying mark of 77 metres, settling for silver with a throw of 65.12m. His overall performance had helped him earn a place in the national team for the Asian Athletics Championships held at Pune in 2013.

A budding athlete from Uttar Pradesh, Yugant Shekhar Singh, was caught on Friday for a banned anabolic steroid. The long jumper from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre in Lucknow, Shekhar has been charged with using androsterone etiocholanolone.

His urine sample was collected on May 14 after which he represented India at Asian Championships in Vietnam and the Worlds in Poland.
