State to have grand celebrations during golden jubilee year: CM
CHANAIGARH: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday said the government will go for grand celebrations throughout the golden jubilee year of the state, beginning November 1.
These will include functions involving children, employees, senior citizens and non-residents Indians (NRIs) hailing from Haryana.
Interacting with newspersons after an all-party meeting on the golden jubilee year celebrations, Khattar said representatives from all parties had given some good suggestions which would be incorporated in the celebration plans. Programmes of folk songs, dances and other cultural functions will also be held during the celebrations. He said persons who had contributed for the state’s growth in different fields will be honoured.

To a question on the Saraswati river, Khattar said, “Saraswati is an issue of faith and even today it has 150-km long course in revenue records. Efforts are being made to make it functional.” He also denied the allegation levelled by the Opposition that the river project was breeding corruption and said it had a budget of only ₹5 crore, out of which only a few lakhs have been spent.
CROP INSURANCE
On Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY), he said it was being implemented in the state in a transparent manner and was in the best interests of farmers. On the allegations that farmers were being duped by private insurance companies through PMFBY, he said tenders were floated to engage the insurance companies and the ones with the best proposals were engaged.
ON SYL ISSUE
On the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue, being highlighted by various parties in Punjab in view of coming assembly elections, he said no one needed to make any sacrifice as the decision of the Supreme Court will have to be accepted by all.
