HC ORDERS STAY IN ONE CASE

-

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court has stayed the Medical Council of India (MCI) order of suspending Patiala’s Dr Ravdeep Singh. The bench of justice GS Sandhawalia acted on the doctor’s petition that he had joined the Haryana Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Kaithal, in December 2014 and quit in February 2015 to come to Government Medical College, Patiala. “HIMS has shut down,” he submitted. The other parties must respond by September 9.

Dr Ravdeep Singh claimed that on August 19, the high court had stayed his suspension. “My name appeared at two places because I was assistant professor in the Kaithal college before joining at Patiala,” he said.

Responding to the charges, Grewal said he had not received any court orders. “We expect a similar MCI action against more doctors working as ghost teachers.” he said. “The practice of hiring private doctors for the inspection period is a common tactic to secure the MCI recognition. It hampers the quality of medical education.” Last week, the PMC suspended two more doctors for six months over similar charges.
