‘RAPISTS’ ROAM FREE, MINOR VICTIM FORCED TO QUIT SCHOOL
PATIALA: A minor rape victim has quit school for the fear of two of five men who allegedly raped her in a moving car on July 16 but haven’t been booked.
The girl, who was abducted from a village in the district, and her father have charged inspector Gurcharan Singh with omitting the names from the firstinformation report (FIR). Dalit leader Paramajit Singh Kainth, who took the victim to the senior superintendent of police, has said the cop was then station house officer (SHO) at Julkan. In December 2012, the cop was dismissed and, later, acquitted and reinstated in a case where pressure for compromise allegedly forced a minor raped at Badshahpur to commit suicide.
In the latest case, fellow villagers picked up the girl on her way to school and dumped her at Pehowa in Haryana’s Kurukshetra district after the crime. “Police arrested accused Ravinder Singh and Shoukat Ali but made no case against Ravinder Sokhi and Deep, and an unidentified man from Haryana. My daughter stopped going to school, since she feels unsafe until all accused are arrested,” said the victim’s father.
He has visited the police station twice but to no avail. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh Chauhan denied the charges and said the FIR was based on the victim’s statement before the magistrate. “She named only two people, whom we have arrested,” he said. “Her family came to my office to have other names included but I told the Patran deputy superintendent of police to investigate.”
