Apropos ‘Two unforgettable memories of Partition’ (August 17) by Amarjit Singh Hayer, his own courage at 13 and the fortitude of Amma Daya Kaur in saving an abducted woman are commendable. In the same issue, there is a beautiful letter by Usha Verma underscoring the trauma of the days. Sir Cyril Radcliffe had arrived in India just five weeks before he drew the line that created Pakistan. Since Partition was fast-forwarded, there were inadequate arrangements on both sides to protect people.
