Hours after the press conference, Mann, who attended the PAC meeting as special invitee, announced Chhotepur’s removal and termed allegation­s against Kejriwal “unfortunat­e”. The PAC examined the reported video clip and also took cognisance of other complaints filed against Chhotepur, said a party release. “Some NRIs and an Amritsar-based leader complained that Chhotepur had taken money from them promising to smoothen their joining the party as well the ticket for the forthcomin­g Vidhan Sabha polls,” said Mann.

The PAC decided not to appoint a new convener until the probe panel has submitted a final report about the “various video and audio clips”.

THE CASE

The CBI booked Kadian and 25 others in 1993 in the IFFCO rate interest scam and a filed a chargeshee­t in 1996, naming him as the main accused. Many accused died during the trial. Kadian joined the Lok Dal in 1987 and was elected as an MLA from the Naultha assembly segment. After late Devi Lal became the deputy PM in 1989, Kadian was appointed chairman of IFFCO. He won the assembly election in 1999 as an INLD candidate and was elected as the assembly speaker, the post which he retained till 2004.
