Two army jawans killed as car, tractor collide

PATIALA Two army men were killed when the Tata Indigo car they were travelling in crashed into a tractor-trolley on the Shambu barrier-Banur road near Rajpura late night on Sunday. Two jawans and the driver of the car survived the crash with serious injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Munish Kumar Sharma (24) of Alwar (Rajasthan) and Vinieth Kumar (25) of Kerala, both were posted as Naik at Ambala cantonment. Two other jawans, Naiks Prasad of Kerala and Ankit Kumar of Mahendraga­rh, Haryana, and driver, Satpal alias Sonu of Babiyal, Haryana, survived with serious injuries.

The incident took place at around 11pm when the victims were returning from Manali. Near Tepla village on Baba Banda Singh Bahadar Road, the car crashed into a tractor trolley laden with logs. The two jawans died on the spot and the injured were rushed to Army Hospital, Ambala.

A case has been registered under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 427 (mischief) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Shambu police station against the tractor driver Gurmeet Singh of Chirhwa in Patiala. The accused driver fled from the spot, leaving the tractor behind.
