Sports outlay goes up by over 59%

GOVT ALSO EFFECTS A HUGE HIKE INTO THE OUTLAYS FOR WOMAN AND CHILD DEVELOPMEN­T, AND DEPRIVED SECTIONS

CHANDIGARH: The annual budget presented by Haryana finance minister Capt Abhimanyu on Mondayeffe­cted ahugehikei­nto the outlays for sports, woman and child developmen­t, and deprived sections.

Giving a whopping increase of 59.10 % in the sports and youth affairs department, the minister said that the budget estimates for the financial year 2017-18 has an outlay of ₹535.36 crore against the ₹336.49 crore of the revised estimates (RE) of 2016-17.

The finance minister said that while the state government had increased the award amount for medal winners and participan­ts in Olympics and Paralympic­s from Haryana, it had also launched a new programme, namely yoga and vyayamshal­a (gyms), in all the villages and cities. For the welfare of scheduled castes (SCs), backward castes (BCs) and elderly persons, the budget has ₹736.84 crore, an increase of 7.4 % over the 2016-17 budget, and ₹4,875.47 crore for social justice and empowermen­t department, an increase of 16 % over 2016-17 budget RE.

Capt Abhmanyu said that the state government had taken new initiative­s for the welfare of labourers, poor and those belonging to scheduled castes, backward classes, women and the elderly. For the women and child developmen­t department, this budget has ₹1,247.24 crore, 23.53 % more as compared to ₹1,009.66 crore in RE 2016-17.
