Outgoing GNDU V-C’s son in jail for Bihar paper leak
AMRITSAR: Anandpreet Singh ‘Anand’ Brar, son of outgoing Guru Nanak Dev University vice-chancellor AS Brar, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody in Patna by a special vigilance court in connection with the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) examination paper leak.
Anand, who was hospitalised in Delhi, was reportedly held by a special investigation team (SIT) and taken to Patna on Thursday. Sources said Anand confessed to his involvement.
As the news reached Amritsar, the GNDU Teachers’ Association, which had earlier accused the V-C of being involved in multiple scams, including in construction works and purchase of answer sheets and scientific equipment besides making illegal appointments, appealed to the Punjab government to probe the cases.
Prof AS Brar had sumbitted his resignation a day before the Congress government formation, but was asked to continue till a new V-C is appointed. He had reportedly asked the authorities to relieve him due to “personal reasons”. Senior professors told HT that Brar had been absent from the university since January, as he was attending to his ailing son in Delhi. “Brar and his wife might have been protecting their son, who was on the run,” said a professor.
“Anand’s involvement in a scam has certified the accusations we have been making against the V-C. AS Brar has also been involved in multiple scams. The Punjab government should probe it,” said GNDUTA president NPS Saini. Brar was not available for comment.
