Amarinder, Soni among Cong star campaigners for Bhoranj bypoll

- Punkaj Bhaartiya

HAMIRPUR:With the bypoll for the Bhoranj assembly being seen as a precursor to the assembly elections due in Himachal this year, the Congress is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a win.

The party has already submitted a list of more than two dozen star campaigners, including party spokesperson Ambika Soni, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, member of parliament Anand Sharma and other ministers, who address meetings in all parts of the constituency.

Meanwhile, electioneering has started in the constituency with leaders of both major parties— the BJP and Congress fanning out in the area to woo the voters.

The BJP campaign is being led by MLA Randhir Sharma and the Congress campaign by chief minister Virbhadra Singh himself.

Singh is going to be in the constituency from Sunday and will hold marathon meetings with the people during the coming days. He is expected to attack the BJP over development in the district.

On other hand, the BJP too has started a door-to-door campaign through its state-level leaders who are assisting their local leaders. The BJP has been attacking the Congress government for “ignoring development” in the state and appealing to the people to oust Congress party from power.

The presence of rebel leaders of the Congress party and the BJP—Ramesh Dogra and Pavan Chandel—has also given sleepless nights to both parties.
