FIR against Dinakaran for paying bribe to get symbol
NEW DELHI: Delhi police on Monday filed an FIR against TTV Dinakaran, deputy general secretary of the AIADMK (Amma) faction, for allegedly bribing a middleman to get the two-leaves symbol allotted to his faction.
The FIR was registered on Sunday after the middleman, Sukesh Chandrashekhar,27, was arrested from a five-star hotel. ₹1.3 crore and two luxury cars — a BMW 7 Series and a Mercedes S-Class — were recovered from him.
Police said he had come to the city 10 days ago and was staying at the hotel in south Delhi.
The factional war in the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, following the death of chief minister and founder J Jayalalithaa, saw the party split into two — AIADMK (Amma) and AIADMK Puratchi Thalavi Amma.
The Election Commission (EC) is yet to decide which faction will get the AIADMK’s twoleaves symbol.
“We had information that the leader was paying ₹50 crore to some officials to get a desired symbol for his party. He had contacted middleman Sukesh Chandrashekhar and also paid some money,” said Madhur Verma, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
Police are questioning Chandrashekhar and investigating the chain of events, police said. Chandrashekhar was earlier arrested by Tamil Nadu police for alleged cases of cheating.
“It seems Chandrashekhar got the money for not just managing to get the election symbol but many others things.
Chandrashekhar has in the past posed as relatives of different chief ministers in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. He claimed he knew Dinakaran for the last four years,” said an officer.
