Another gangster held; guns seized
PATIALA: Making another breakthrough in the infamous Nabha jail break case, the counter intelligence wing of Punjab police has arrested gangster Sukhchain Singh alias Sukhi of Mansa on Wednesday.
Sukhchain fired shots on entering Nabha jail and had aided six criminals flee from the premises.
AIG Gurmeet Singh said police party of inspector Shaminder Singh arrested Sukhchain Singh while checking a white Verna car at a naka on the Nabha-Sangrur road (near Chhitanwala). A country-made .30 bore pistol and a licensed .32 bore revolver were recovered from him. Also, 630 gram intoxicant powder was recovered from his possession.
Police further said that the accused had appended fake number plate on the Verna car. Investigations revealed that the accused had fired upon and then snatched the car from a car dealership agent on March 13 near the Patran police station.
During course of investigation, it has also come to light that Sukhchain was an accomplice of Gurpreet Singh Sekhon — mastermind of the Nabha jailbreak case — and had been behind bars along with Sekhon in 2014.
Sukhchain was an accomplice of Mani Sekhon, brother of Gurpreet Sekhon and has a dozen criminal cases registered against Sukchain.
Of the six gangsters who escaped from the Nabha Jail, four accused — Harminder Singh alias Mintu, Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, Kulpreet Singh Neeta and Aman Dhotia — have been arrested. Twenty two others, including those who acted as conspirators, attackers, facilitators have been arrested. Fourteen pistols, nine cars and 500 rounds of ammunitions and walkie-talkie sets have been recovered till now. Those arrested include Palwinder Pinda, Bikkar, Jagatbir, Chanpreet Channa, Manveer Mani, Rajwinder Raju and Sukchain Singh Sukhi, Gurpreet Singh Mangewal, Mohammad Asim, Sunil Kalra, Ranjeet and Harjot.
