SIT to investigate student’s suicide
STUDENTS CONTINUE PROTEST FOR SUSPENSION OF PRINCIPAL, TWO OTHER COLLEGE OFFICIALS
AMRITSAR: Police on Friday formed a special investigation team (SIT) to look into the suicide of the Khalsa College student who was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room on Wednesday.
College principal Mehal Singh, registrar Devinder Singh and head of agriculture department Randeep Kaur were booked for abetting Harpreet Singh’s suicide on Thursday.
The three-member SIT, headed by additional deputy commissioner of police (ADGP, II) Gautam Singal, includes additional commissioner of police (ACP, crime) Sarabjit Singh and Cantonment station house officer (SHO) inspector Sushil Kumar.
“The SIT will investigate the suicide case and submit a detailed report,” said police commissioner S Srivastava.
The students, who continued the protests outside the college, met Srivastava on Friday. They demanded the authorities should immediately suspend the three booked college officials. Khalsa College Management Committee (KCMM), however, said it is holding talks with the protesting students. “We are in talks with the students, but the deadlock remains,” said KCMM spokesperson Dharmendra Rataul. Meanwhile, teachers have condemned the FIR against the college principal and two others and threaten to go on strike.
