MARUTI TO BUY LITHIUMION BATTERIES FROM SUZUKI VENTURE

NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd will procure lithium-ion battery packs from a newly formed joint venture between Suzuki Motor Corp, Toshiba Corp. and Denso Corp as the country’s largest car maker looks to build a portfolio of hybrid cars, said Kenichi Ayukawa, MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki. “Nobody is producing lithium-ion battery in India. To realise that (electric) vehicle, we need lithium-ion battery. That’s why Suzuki decided to make that manufactur­ing of lithium-ion battery packs here. They are already collaborat­ing in Japan to produce hybrid vehicles. They want to take up this challenge here. We want to use the batteries for our cars.”
