Pichai received US $200 million salary last year

HOUSTON: Google’s 44-year-old India-born CEO Sundar Pichai received nearly USD 200 million (around ₹1,286 crore) in compensation last year, double the amount he got in 2015.

Pichai received a salary of USD 6,50,000 last year, slightly less than the USD 652,500 he earned in 2015. But the long-time Google employee, who was named CEO during the company’s re-organisation in August 2015, received a stock award of USD 198.7 million in 2016, roughly double his 2015 stock award of USD 99.8 million.

The company’s compensation committee attributed the lavish pay to Pichai’s promotion to CEO and “numerous successful product launches”, the CNN reported. Larry Page, Google’s co-founder and previous CEO, shifted his focus to growing new businesses under the Alphabet umbrella. Under Pichai, Google has boosted sales from its core advertising and YouTube business, while also investing in machine learning, hardware and cloud computing, the report said.

In 2016, Google unveiled new smartphones, a virtual reality headset, a router, and a voice controlled smart speaker. JAMMU:Embarking on BJP’s “Vistaar Yatra” from Jammu on Saturday, BJP national president Amit Shah fired a salvo at the Congress saying a party that caters to the interests of one family cannot work in country’s interest.

He also seized the opportunity for seeking support of intellectuals and youth to the BJP in its quest to strengthen party’s base in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a gathering of intellectuals and prominent citizens here this evening, Shah traced the history and ideology of the BJP to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and said the party upholds its internal constitutional values.

“I joined the BJP in 1982 without any political background and rose to the post of the party president. Can anyone tell who is going to be the next president of BJP after my tenure? But in the Congress, it’s anybody’s guess,” Amit Shah said. Earlier in the day, the BJP chief expressed concern over the prevailing situation in the Valley and asked ministers and legislators in the PDP-BJP government to reach out to the people of Kashmir and Ladakh regions to address their issues.
