Rohtak cops issue 28 challans, let off ‘Romeos’ after warning

ROHTAK/ KARNAL/ HISAR The antieve teasing squad of the Rohtak Police formed under Operation Durga on Monday issued challans to 28 youths for rash driving and other traffic offences besides letting off ‘Romeos’ on strict warning.

The police also impounded eight vehicles out of the 28 it challaned under the operation.

Under the operation, which was re-launched by newly appointed Haryana DGP BS Sandhu, cops conducted surprise raids at women colleges, parks, university and other public places to hunt for wanton men. A thorough questionin­g and identity-check followed after which they were let off with warnings to not roam aimlessly.

DSP Pushpa Khatri, the officer incharge of the operation, said they were reaching out on spots following the complaints received by women on their WhatsApp numbers. “People can call 1091 helpline or share images and videos on WhatsApp at 8571851091 to complain of eve teasing,” she said.

In Karnal, sub-inspector Pawna Devi, in-charge of Operation Durga in the district, said on the first day, a team of woman police personnel made surprise visits to public places and outside educationa­l institutio­ns in the city.

She said the campaign will soon be extended to the rural areas with a special focus on the school and colleges and check unwarrante­d activities of ‘Romeos’.

In Sirsa, Fatehabad and Hisar, police carried out searches at places like schools, girls’ colleges, bus stands and railway stations.

Sirsa railway police SHO Harpal Singh said, “We have deployed women police force to keep strict vigil. If any youth or man boards a women compartmen­t, police will take action against them.”

He said the government railway police and railway protection force will ensure women’s safety. NEW DELHI: The CBI on Monday questioned Chattar Singh, a UPSC member and the then principal secretary to the former chief minister of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda in connection to an alleged graft case.

Officials said Singh was examined in connection to its probe into alleged irregulari­ties in the allocation of industrial plots in Panchkula in which former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is also named as an accused. Singh, a former IAS officer of the 1980-batch, was additional principal secretary to the chief minister between 2009 and 2013.
