India U-17 draw with Paris club Saint Leu

PARIS: The Indian U-17 football team played out a 1-1 draw against French club FC Saint Leu here on Wednesday.

In the first half, the Indians dominated possession but lacked firepower. However, in the 58th minute, the French boys took the lead. In the 72nd minute, Komal put India back on level terms after he latched onto a long goal-kick and scored to make it 1-1.

MALAYSIA VS NORTH KOREA TIE POSTPONED KUALA LUMPUR: An Asian Cup qualifier between Malaysia and North Korea has been postponed a second time to October due to security concerns, with the venue still to be decided, Asian football’s governing body said Wednesday.

The AFC had scheduled the match for June 8 in Pyongyang but said in a statement that it should be postponed “because of the geo-political tension on the Korean Peninsula”.

“The game will now be re-scheduled for the next best available FIFA match-day which is Thursday, October 5, 2017,” the statement said.

BAGAN WIN 3-1

KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan produced a couple of late goals to defeat Bengaluru FC (BFC) 3-1 in an AFC Cup Group E tie at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium.

Jeje Lalpekhlua (9th minute) handed Bagan the early lead before Seminlen Doungel (52nd) pulled BFC level.

However, Kean Lewis (74th) and Bikramjit Singh (80th) scored for Mohun Bagan in the late stages.

INJURED GOALKEEPER SREEJESH TO MISS ACTION

NEWDELHI:India hockey captain PR Sreejesh will miss the threenatio­n tournament, starting June 1, in Dusseldorf, due to a knee injury.

The goalkeeper sustained the injury during the Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia.

Since he is undergoing rehabilita­tion at the national camp in Bengaluru, Hockey India will not consider him for the World League Semifinals starting from June 15 in London.

Elena Norman, Hockey India spokespers­on said Sreejesh was under observatio­n and the medical expert will examine the injury next week.
