AMRITSAR: The Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh in a press conference, held here announced that the panth was committed to restore the Gyan Godri Gurdwra in Haridwar. Jathedar Singh said, “A high level committee will be formed to chalk out a strategy regarding the matter.”

He said that a meeting of Sikh priests will be called to discuss the issue.

Jathedar Akal Takht, after attending a ‘panthic’ to deliberate on the issue said, “The heads of many Sikh organisations have come up with suggestions of how to ensure the establishment.”

“An 11-member committee will be formed to raise the issue with the Uttrakhand government,” he said. Jathedar said that the entire campaign to establish the Gurdwara will be peaceful but strongly taken up.

He said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) will play an active role in the campaign. DSGMC chief Manjit Singh GK was also present in the gathering on Wednesday.

Gurudwara Gyan Godri which was at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar was demolished in 1979. Though the Uttrakhand government offered an alternative site for construction of Gurudwara but the SGPC and other panthic bodies want that the Gurudwara to be established at the same place.

SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar who was also present in the meeting, said, “It is unfortunate that the Sikhs have to struggle hard for the restoration of a historical Gurdwara.”

He said that the government of Uttrakhand must take this issue on priority and ensure restoration. DSGMC chief Manjit Singh GK said that the struggle for restoration of the historical Gurudwara will be successful.
