- Sarbmeet Singh

MUKTSAR: A day after the seizure of 10,000 litre molasses in Kattianwali village near Lambi, police have failed to arrest any of the 10 accused booked in the case. Last week, the cops had arrested two accused, Baaj Singh and Viru Singh, of seven in another such case in the same village.

Police is unable to curb the network of illegal liquor ‘bhathis’ in Lambi region of Muktsar. Members of the mafia have so far managed to evade police raids and continue their nefarious activities. Police have booked Lakhwinder Singh, Balvir Singh, Raju Singh, Gurnam Singh, Bittu Singh, Surinder Singh, Sattu Singh, Kala Singh, Pappu Singh, Shinda Singh of Kattianwali village, under Section 61/114 of the Excise Act, on Sunday.

SSP Muktsar Sushil Kumar said, “The 10 persons have been booked but no arrest has been made so far. The lush of 10-12 feet tall reed along the canal banks helps them to operate and flee before raid.” “They keep the molasses and bottles hidden in drums buried inside the trenches, while the tall shrubs help them to keep these material safe from authorities,” he said.
