THE VICTIMS ARE FROM WEST BENGAL AND JHARKHAND, SAY POLICE

ROHTAK: The Assam Police and Delhi Police in a joint raid rescued two minor girls, who were allegedly trafficked by three men and were living in captivity, from Rohtak on Tuesday.

The police said one of the victims—17-year-old from West Bengal—had come to Delhi six years ago after running away from her home. Around six months ago, she was sent to Rohtak’s Kalanaur town by some women in Delhi on the promise of marriage. Since then, she has been living in the captivity of three Kalanaur men who have been gang-raping her.

The other victim—a 14-yearold from Jharkhand—had recently run away from home and come to Delhi. She was promised a job by a woman in Delhi and was sent here to Kalanaur, where she too was held captive by the three men. During her statement, the 14-year-old victim denied rape and said the other victim from West Bengal protected her from the three men.

The district child welfare committee chairman Raj Singh Sangwan said the Assam Police had come to Rohtak on a tip-off to recover a different victim, for which a case was registered with them six months ago.

During their raid, however, the two girls who were locked inside a room shouted for help and were rescued. They have now been sent to a shelter home in Bahadurgarh for temporary rehabilitation.

The police said they have registered a case against three men— Dharmendra, Subhash and Krishna.
