NHM seeks records from Jalandhar civil surgeon

- Jatinder Kohli

JALANDHAR: The district health department has come under the scanner of National Health Mission (NHM) Punjab as they have sought the entire records of purchase made in 2016-17. In a letter to the civil surgeon, the NHM state director Varun Roojam has asked the former to send all the documents and records pertaining to the purchase made in the last financial year.

The letter reads that each stock register, copies of bills,NOC given by drug warehouse, tender documents, purchase orders, demand made by SMOs and payment registers including copies of ledgers, should be sent to his office, immediately.

It further mentioned that state health minister Brahm Mohindra has asked him to conduct the probe. Sources in the health department revealed that as soon as the letter reached them through email, they sent the officials in a tizzy and started collecting the records. They further added that some have even started approaching high-ups.

On May 25, HT had reported that the district health department has spent ₹47 lakh for purchase of medicines mentioned in Emergency Drug List (EDL), but the patients were forced to buy medicines from market, owing to non-availability of drugs at government hospitals. The Jalandhar health department has already been facing vigilance and high-level committee probes into the purchase of electronic items and medicines under Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) programme of the NHM.

Vigilance bureau had quizzed former civil surgeon Dr RL Bassan and other officials after HT carried an exclusive report over the purchase of electronic items from a local surgical firm.

The owner had claimed that they do not deal in such products. HT has copies of bills regarding items including LCD computer, UPS system, printer and CPU with a DVD writer from the firm.

The VB is reportedly reeling under political pressure to file its report in the case. JALANDHAR :Police arrested three gangsters from Uppal Khalsa village and recovered an illegal pistol and six live cartridges from their possession. Accused are Munish Kumar, Dinesh Kumar and Harvinder Singh of Mandi Road in Nurmahal. SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said cops recovered a 7.65 bore pistol and six live cartridges from their possession. The three have been booked under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. Accused were planning to strike in the coming days as per interrogation.
