Currently, there are 215 students who are in their second semester. I don’t know how the government plans to settle these students.

AMRITSAR: As the Punjab government, led by Captain Amarinder Singh, on Thursday promulgated an order to repeal the Khalsa University Act, 2016, with a view to protecting the heritage character of the iconic building, the management said it will move the court against the order as the varsity Act has been repealed on false grounds.

Khalsa College Governing Council honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said: “The reason the government has given (to repeal the Act) is not right. The KCGC is committed to preserving the heritage structure of the historic building.”

“We are ready for a legal battle as we haven’t violated any rules or regulations and have fulfilled all criteria required to establish

a university. We will soon file a civil writ petition in the high court to challenge the scrapping of the varsity,” he added.

On uncertainty regarding the future of students, KCGC spokesperson Dharmendra Rataul said: “Currently, there are 215 students who are in their second semester. I don’t know how the government plans to settle these students. They have taken an impulsive decision without doubt any homework,” he added.
