Parshuram Sena chief booked for hurting religious sentiments

PHAGWARA: Upset over Parshuram Sena’s president Sanjeev Kumar Sharma’s statement of demanding cancellati­on of quota system on social media a few days back, Schedule Caste (SC) community here held protest outside the superinten­dent of police (SP) office on Wednesday.

Protesters carried out a march in the city and threatened to intensify their protest seeking legal action against the Hindu leader.

They agreed to lift the protest after police assured to register a case in the incident.

Later on the police officials booked Sanjeev Kumar Sharma on charges of hurting religious sentiments of the Schedule Caste community.

Protesters said that they had also gheroed the superinten­dent of police (SP)’s house on Tuesday night demanding the FIR against Sanjeev but senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) SK Sharma had rushed to spot and pacified the protesters assuring action against the Hindu leader.

SC community members claimed that Parshuram Sena, Phagwara leader SK Sharma had posted three videos on his social media account in which he used provocativ­e words against the community. The community members claimed he also delivered a speech against quota system, asking general community people to join protest.

As per the first informatio­n report (FIR), SSP recommende­d FIR against Sanjeev Sharma after DDA (legal) GS Manda suggested that considerin­g the present facts and circumstan­ces, a prime facts case under Section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was filed against Sanjeev Sharma which is cognisable and a FIR may be registered against him for the offence.

Meanwhile, the situation remained tense in the Phagwara for last few hours after SC community held protest seeking an apology from the president of Parshuram Sena, Phagwara. Sharma has refused to extend any apology in the incident.
