Aadhaar card service in 400 state post offices soon

- Harvinder Kaur

JALANDHAR:People will soon have the facility to correct any error or update their Aadhaar cards in their nearest post offices as the facility is expected to be operational from the first week of July.

Initially, only updating, correcting errors and getting a print of the Aadhaar will be available at post offices, after which, gradually, enrolment services will also be extended.

Officials in head post office Jalandhar said that system managers and inspectors from post offices across the state have recently received training on providing Aadhaar facility to the public in Chandigarh.

“The move is to facilitate the rural population as they still prefers services provided by the post offices as compared to others institutes,” said Jalandhar senior superintendent post offices (SSPO), Mohammad Hanif.

There is a growing concern among people to protect their personal data and privacy, so the government believes that people will prefer availing Aadhaar enrolment and update services at post offices over private centres.

As many as 22 post offices in villages and 40 post offices based in the city area of Jalandhar district and around 400 offices across the state are expected to have the facility.

“Since the department has more than 24,000 posts offices with suitable IT infrastructure, these post offices have become Aadhaar update centres and be easily used for providing Aadhaar update services to people,” reads the central government notification to the post offices.

“These post offices would only require one additional finger printer/iris device which can be procured at ₹2, 000,” says the notification.
