KOTA/NEW DELHI: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences declared on Thursday the results of its MBBS online entrance test after a government panel rejected allegations of question paper leak.

A total of 28,4,737 candidates appeared, out of which 4,905 have qualified and are eligible for counseling session in AIIMS.

“For the first time in its history, Aiims New Delhi will be admitting 100 students for this session,” Dr Ashok Kumar Jaryal, head of exams, AIIMS said.

AIIMS Delhi is regarded as India’s most prestigious medical college. The exam was topped by Nishita Purohit, a teenager from Gujarat’s Surat district.

Purohit and the other top-10 students were associated with the same coaching institute in Kota: Allen Career Institute.

The other All India Rankers are Archit Gupta, who has grabbed the all-India rank (AIR) 2. Tamoghana Ghosh, Nipum Chandra, Harsh Agarwal, Rishav Raj, Harshit Anand, Rinku Sarmah, Abhishek Dogra and Manish Moolchandani grabbed AIRs 3 to 10 respectively.

Of these, Tamoghana Ghosh, Nipun Chandra and Rinku Sarmah studied in Allen through distance learning.

Kota is known as a hub of coaching institutes for exams such as the one for entry into AIIMS. Admissions to colleges in India see intense competition, with exams for engineering and medical courses often requiring students to take special classes in lessons that are not usually covered in school education.

The tough competition has claimed several lives, particularly in Kota, of students who have been unable to cope with the pressure.
