BFUHS completes shifting of 1,437 Gian Sagar students
FARIDKOT: Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, finally completed the process of shifting 1,457 MBBS, BDS, physiotherapy and nursing students of Banur-based Gian Sagar medical college to other institutes.
A total of 136 bachelor in physiotherapy students of 2013-2016 session, along with two master in physiotherapy students of the 2015 session were shifted on the last day of the eight-day counselling.
A few management quota students had heated arguments with the university authorities as they wanted to avail the government quota seats. “We cannot allow anyone to change seats. They have to take permission from the government. We somehow made the students understand the rules,” said Arvind Sharma, professor in-charge of admissions, BFUHS.
The university will conduct special counselling of 83 MBBS, dental and nursing students of the batches between 2008 and 2011 on June 23. On the first day of counselling for the batches between 2012 and 2016, it came to the fore that many students of 2008-2011 batches still haven’t received their degrees. Applicants will have to appear in person for credentials and documents verification at Faridkot’s GGS Medical College by 9am.
The Punjab government had on May 10 withdrawn permission to Gian Sagar Trust to run medical, dental, nursing and physiotherapy colleges. The classes in the college remained suspended since February 1 after the staff went on indefinite strike against the management for not clearing their dues.
