AMRITSAR: One and half month after removing Giani Gurmukh Singh from the post of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib’s jathedar, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee(SGPC) condemned the death ‘threat’ to him.

The SGPC has written a letter to Punjab DGP Suresh Arora seeking security cover for him.

Taking serious note of the threat, the SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar said, “Giani Gurmukh Singh is serving as head granthi of Gurdwara Sri Dhamdhan Sahib(Haryana) and the police should provide him proper security.”

Demanding that truth of the threat letter be brought to fore, Badungar said, “People who have sent this letter are dangerous. They are against peace in Punjab.”

He said, the state government should be conscious of elements who pose a big challenge to the state.

The former Takht Sri Damdama Sahib jathedar claimed to have received the letter, threatening to kill him for opposing Naam Charchas, on Monday.

The letter has been allegedly sent from an unknown follower of Sirsa based Dera Sacha Sauda.Gurmukh Singh was removed as head from one of the five temporal seats of Sikhism by the SGPC in April this year for levelling allegations against Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal.

He said that he was informed by his family members about a bag hung on his house’s gate at Arif ke village of Ferozepur district on Monday morning.
