Master Tara Singh memorial to come up in holy city: Sidhu
When I see today’s Akalis in the Vidhan Sabha, I am ashamed to see their deeds, but I bow before the Akalis like Master Tara Singh.
AMRITSAR: Punjab local government, tourism and cultural affairs minister Navjot Singh Sidhu announced here on Saturday that a memorial dedicated to Master Tara Singh, an iconic figure of the Akali movement , would be set here.
Sidhu was addressing a statelevel function held here by the Punjab government in memory of Master Tara Singh.
Sidhu said the memorial would be constructed as per the wishes and at a place to be chosen by the family members of Master Tara Singh. Sidhu said that selfless leaders like Master Tara Singh would continue to rule hearts of the people.
Thanking chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh for organising this event, Sidhu said Master Tara Singh dedicated his life to protect interests of the Sikh Panth and worked for it tirelessly.
“When I see today’s Akalis in the Vidhan Sabha, I am ashamed to see their deeds, but I bow before the Akalis like Master Tara Singh,” he said.
Dr Jaspreet Kaur, granddaughter-in-law of Master Tara Singh, shared memories of the great leader and his contribution to the freedom movement, the Akali movement and the Punjabi Suba movement.
Principal Jagdish Singh, chairman of the Sant Singh Sukha Singh Group of Institutions, and Prof Amanpreet Singh from Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Delhi, shed light on the life and contribution of Master Tara Singh.
MLAs Sunil Datti, Inderbir Singh Bularia, Santokh Singh Bhalaipura, deputy commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, police commissioner SS Shrivastav, commissioner of the municipal corporation Gurloveleen Singh Sidhu were also present on the occasion.
Later Sidhu also honoured Dr Jaspreet Kaur on the occasion.
