Security core group reviews arrangements
JAMMU: Barely four days ahead of annual Amarnath Yatra, a group meeting of security forces was held with the army reviewing final security arrangements at 16 Corps headquarters at Nagrota on Saturday.
Amid a spike in terror attacks and volatile situation in Kashmir, the yatra will commence on June 29. The meeting was co-chaired by White Knight Corps general officer commanding Lt Gen AK Sharma and J&K DGP SP Vaid.
“Intelligence updates to review security threats to the Amarnath Yatra were discussed. All stakeholders have been advised to sensitise those on the ground to avoid untoward incidents,” defence spokesperson Lt Col Manish Mehta said.
“A joint strategy to include operational and administrative arrangements was chalked out to ensure peace and stability in the region,” he added. Lt Gen Sharma said the army and its various formations deployed at South of Pir Panjal are proactively involved in synergy with civil administration to maintain peace and social harmony in the region. Vaid appreciated the high-levels of synergy in operations exhibited by all agencies in recent times. He also encouraged all to overcome contemporary challenges.
