Jaipur traffic cops to pull down Bumrah hoarding

JAIPUR: The Jaipur traffic police have decided to take down a hoarding promoting road safety with a meme on Jasprit Bumrah’s no-ball against Pakistan, a day after the cricketer slammed the move on Twitter.

The hoarding had been put up after a tweet by the official account of the Jaipur traffic police went viral. It showed cars waiting to get past a zebra crossing and the cricketer bowling the no-ball to Pakistan Fakhar Zaman in the ICC Champions Trophy final. A witty caption accompanie­d the photo, “Don’t cross the line. You know it can be costly.”

The tweet was widely shared by Twitterati, so much so that Bumrah responded to it on Friday and made his displeasur­e clear. “@traffic_jpr well done Jaipur traffic police this shows how much respect you get after giving your best for the country”, he tweeted.

He fired another tweet: “@traffic_jpr But don’t worry I won’t make fun of the mistakes which you guys make at your work .because I believe humans can make mistakes”.

Both tweets went viral, prompting the police to apologise. “Dear Jasprit Bumrah, our intent was not to hurt your sentiments or the sentiments of millions of cricket fans. We only intended to create more awareness about traffic rules. You are a youth icon & an inspiratio­n for all of us,” the cops tweeted.

Following that, the tweet that was share more than 5000 times was also deleted from the account.
