Dr Nijjar is Punjabi University registrar
PATIALA: Secretary, higher education, Punjab, and vice-chancellor of Punjabi University Dr Anurag Verma has appointed Dr Manjit Singh Nijjar, professor and head of the law department, as registrar of the university.
A former dean of the faculty of law, Dr Nijjar took over the charge of his new office on Tuesday in the presence of a number of university teachers and nonteaching staff members. He is also working as legal adviser of the university and director of the Centre for Information Technology and Management, Mohali.
He replaces Dr Inderjit Singh, who quit on June 23 citing personal reasons. The latter had joined as registrar, replacing Dr Devinder Singh on April 11.
Dr Yograj, professor in the department of Punjabi language, has been given the additional charge of director, MHRD-UGC’s Academic Staff College, relieving Dr Balwinder Singh Tiwana of the additional charge.
Dr Rajesh Sharma, professor, department of English, has been made dean, international students, while Dr MS Randhawa, head, department of sociology and social anthropology, has been made director, University Institute of Impact Assessment, in place of Dr HS Bhatti.
Heads of linguistics and Punjabi departments get additional charge of director and coordinator of the Centre for Diaspora Studies, respectively. Hindi department head given additional charge Bhagwan Valmiki Chair.
