Rain brings cheer to farmers

KARNAL: Light pre-monsoon showers brought smiles for paddy farmers in parts of Haryana who were eagerly waiting for rains to complete the transplantation process.

Heavy rain was reported in parts of Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Karnal districts since early Tuesday morning. The rain gave respite to the residents from sweltering heat and also brought relief for the farmers who were suffering with the regular power cuts, due to which they could not use their power sets.

As paddy transplantation process is on the peak, the rain is set to prove helpful to farmers in preparing their fields. “Despite there being no rain, I have already transplanted my six acres of paddy crop. It was difficult to nurture the crop in absence of rains. Regular power cuts made it worst as we could not use our pump sets and the crop requires more water in the initial month,” said Rajesh Kamboj, a farmer from Yamunanagar district.

The MeT department said 5mm of rainfall was recorded in Nariangarh of Ambala , 5mm in Bilaspur of Yamunanagar, 3mm each in Jagadhari , Radaur and Sadhaura of Yamunanagar and 2 mm rainfall in Chhacchhrauli. Rainfall was also reported in Ladwa and Babain of Kurukshetra district and Indri block of Karnal. The MeT department said the minimum temperature has come down from 35 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius and moderate rain is likely at many places on 28th and at most places on 29th and 30th in Haryana.
