AMRITSAR: Left in lurch, after the Congress government scrapped the Khalsa University (KU), over 200 students heaved sigh of relief as the process to adjust them started at Guru Nanak Dev University on Tuesday.

The Khalsa University students who attended the counselling also met dean academic affairs professor Subodh Kumar. Kumar said, “We have received over 100 applications. The counselling has started. This is a provisional admission as final list will be prepared after the results. The admissions will be given, subject to the clearance of exams by the individual.”

Kumar said that they are preparing a list of few provisional subjects. The process for submitting applications will be on till June 30.

UNAVAILABLE COURSES Though the government has said that the affected students will be given admission but the students of courses like MSc, medical lab technology, MSc agriculture and MPhil physical education seemed a worried lot.

A student on the condition of anonymity said, “The students enrolled in courses, easily available in other universities, can be adjusted, but our fate seems dark as a course like lab technology is not in every institution.”

Reacting to that the dean said, “We hope everyone gets adjusted. If we do not have those courses then the government will offer the students the same courses in other educational institutions of the state.”

Notably in these rare courses there are around 40 students. There are about 20 students of mass communication and journalism who if admitted in GNDU will have to leave the city as their campus will be in Jalandhar.

As per the KCGC spokesperson there are 103 PhD students and 107 graduate and post graduate students.

The students enrolled in degree and PhD programmes for 2016-17 session are currently on the verge of completing two semesters. The existing students who are taking exams will get results by July 20.
